All Girls Mite Teams!!Why should the boys have all of the fun?Eastview hockey association (EVHA) will allow girls a choice to play on an all-girl hockey team. Other hockey associations that have offered all-girl teams have had significant increases in the number of girls that try hockey. Hockey is fun, and Eastview Hockey Association would like to give girls the chance to try hockey without being concerned about having to play with boys.
Q. Do girls play hockey?A. Absolutely! Hockey is becoming more and more popular with girls. Eastview Hockey Association has girl teams in all age categories. All the area high schools have girl teams and women’s hockey has become very popular at the college and Olympic levels.
Q. What are mites?A. Mites are the youngest age hockey players in the Eastview Hockey Association (born on or after 7/1/99). Mite hockey programs emphasize skating and skills development.
Q. How will the girls team(s) be formed?A. At registration, parents can select the ”all-girl” mite option. Girls of different skill levels will be placed together on teams, not separated by ability and experience as they are with the regular mite teams.
Q. Will there be enough girls in the program to have more than one team?A. We anticipate that there will be several girls teams. EVHA has also made arrangements with Apple Valley Hockey Association to share practice times and provide scrimmage opportunities with each other’s girls teams.
Q. Will the girls practice with the boys or play the boys?A. No. Girls practices and games will remain separate. The girls will share the ice with other mite teams (consisting mainly of boys) during practices, but practices will be conducted independently.
Q. Is there checking?A. No. Girls will collide and fall down but hockey equipment has been designed to protect young players.
If you have other questions about beginning girls hockey please contact the mite coordinator, Chris Carlson, at 952-997-2232. | ![]() |
